Hello... I've just discovered this swap chat board, and wondered if perhaps I could get your input. My situation is that my just turned 13yo is special needs. He's all over the board (ranging from a 3rd grader on up in various academic areas), much of his learning disabilities stemming from long/short-term memory issues). My question is about math curricula. We've been using Scott Foresman Exploring Mathematics for the past 3 years, (and finally, my son isn't fighting math -- much! -- anymore, and I'm finally seeing him progressing). Once he finishes the Scott Foresman 8th grade math, however, where do we go from there? Pre-algebra? Or is 8th grade math actually considered pre-algebra these days? Also, what sort of math curriculum is out there which has plenty of repetition, yet isn't completely boring (like Saxon Math, which was a nightmare for us)? I'm looking for something which is colorful, with lots of story problems (he also deals with reading comprehension problems, so story problems are very useful for us, helping him solve day to day math problems he might encounter), as well as regular number problems? I'm looking for something similar to Scott Foresman's Exploring Mathematics, but is that a lost cause? Or maybe you have other suggestions of things which might work for us? Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Hugs,
