Oh what excellent commentary. I had a terrible experience recently. My husbands office held a BBQ and everyone was asked to bring along a dish or two which I did (vegan). I sat next to a husband of one of the co-owners of the company who noticed what was on my plate (no faces) and began his taunting. Others joined in. (note the age group here; 58 yrs and up).
It wasn't funny, it wasn't humerous and soon I realized I was being bullied. Aggressively. Any comments or dialogue I attempted were soon drowned out by their awful hooplah. This incident upset me so much, two weeks later I am only now recovering from it.
Judging, intolerance and bullying is practiced by all ages. Evidently this/these individuals felt a need to feel better by crushing me. Over my thirty years of being vegan I've encountered the odd insult but never something on this scale. They must feel very threatened or guilty? Either way, it is these individuals who probably complain louder than the rest of us as to the state of our cruel world. Irony, irony.
