It may seem surprising but australia is extremely vegetarian friendly....however in the outback if thats where your planning on going..i wouldnt recommend you travel without food as there is not much in the desert in terms of any food, meat or plants....if your planning on going deep into the outback makes sure you have lots of water and plenty of food and a reliable vehicle and let someone know where your going and how long you plan to go....
most travellers underestimate how hot it is in central australia and dehydrate very quickly....
if you're travelling anywhere throughout australia, the cities and all suburbs are saturated with 24 hour supermarkets(grocery stores)... and nearly all supermarkets carry a wide array of veg, bean, legumes, tofu...even mock meats if thats what you are into. there are also many vegetarian restaraunts... and the hari krishna restaraunts are all veg and super cheap....sundays at the temple its free food....yum...
