Since I read about calorie density I try to avoid dried cereals because they have more calories per ounce and hence are less filling for the calories eaten. Most of them also contain added sugar (or juice, maple syrup, etc) and salt as well. My goal is whole foods without additives. My goal is also to eat grains in moist form because dried grains have a very high calorie density and don't promote weight loss because of this. I currently cook my oatmeal in a 3-cup size small rice cooker. One cut up apple, 1/2 cup oatmeal, 1 cup water. I sometimes use a peach or apricots, or berries instead. Then I head out for my morning walk. When I get back 90 minutes later it has cooked, shut itself off, and cooled to proper eating temperature. If it's too cold I heat it for 45 seconds in the microwave.
