If your friend is a meat eater, you won't gain any brownie points by not picking up the dish your friend wants. He/she is still going to eat the meat anyway. And you might actually lose a little ground if you hope to inspire him or her to veganism down the road. That said, if your friend understands and respects your veganism, he or she might also respect your discomfort picking up something that's morally repugnant to you. I suggest just telling your friend you're uncomfortable purchasing animal products, particularly meat, and then mutually try to figure out other arrangements.
