It sounds like you are treating the adoption of a pet as just another consumer item to be purchased. Why get a dog when you can have a bunny? Real life doesn't work that way. Or at least it doesn't have to. Here is a dog that has been abused and then abandoned. If he doesn't find a home in the next 48 hours, he will be put to death. What is the compassionate solution to this situation? Surely rescuing a suffering creature is the right thing to do. If it means that we have to make an exception to our precious principles in order to meet the needs of that animal, so be it. Anyway, the principle involved is not "thou shalt not buy meat." The principle is compassion for suffering creatures. Keith
