I'm about to turn 49 in May. I'm finally going to go to a GYN because I now have a job with health insurance. I haven't seen a doctor in 19 years, because I did not have insurance; I figured I would do the best I could with a healthy lifestyle, self-treat small injuries and illnesses with herbs and an ace bandage, and hope for the best. I'm extremely small and -ahem- I believe the polite euphemism is "slight build" - there is nowhere for a neoplasm bigger than a pinhead to hide. WHen I made my appointment the receptionist went apoplectic over the fact that I haven't had regular checkups, but hey - lots of people who are uninsured are in the same boat.
