I'm a foster parent with my local animal shelter, and would be a vegan
if I stopped buying catfood. Two questions: 1) I've read about cats
being vegan if you cook for them, and then add a supplement. This is a
problem since a) I hate cooking; b) I'm dealing with cats who are often
sick with colds and have to be coaxed to eat even stinky, heated up,
expensive, no by-product catfood. I've tried canned vegan food, but
the only cat who would touch it will also eat everything from lettuce
to toilet paper.

Second question: Even if I went veg with my fosters, I'd be sending
them to adopters who are very unlikely to do the same. So, indirectly,
I'm still perpetuating the meat industry.

If there are too many cats at the Shelter, of course, they will be put
to sleep. This is a terrible thing to say, but at least it is a quick
death -- as opposed to the drawn-out torture inflicted on farm animals.

If I were retired, I would foster dogs instead, but I have fairly long
work days, which dogs don't handle well.

Thanks for any feedback.
