I really appreciate your reply. I guess we are dealing with the same issue here. It certainly is a hard one. I don't quite know the answer, but I do know that based on my family history (suicide attempts, self medication and death through legal and illegal drugs, etc.), I want to be careful and make the decision that is best for my well being. While I am not taking any medication right now, I have been thinking about suicide a lot lately. That really concerns and frightens me. Without going into too much detail, my family has been through a couple of recent deaths and a suicide attempt and those things were so difficult for me to live through. I just would hate to put anyone I love through that. So, if taking an animal tested drug is the only way to avoid that, I would consider doing it again.

I have been totally vegan (aside from this issue and things like car tires) for 9 years now and I am well aware that animal testing is largely a waste of time, money and of course life. I have lived a more strict form veganism when I refused to take anything and would probably be at that stage had I not suffered a few depressive episodes.

I guess what I am saying is that I believe that medication is ok as a last possible resort. Still, any vegan who takes medication or does other non-vegan things should be completely honest about doing so. Veganism and responsible living is all about doing the most good possible IMHO.
