Oddly enough, my experience is the opposite. I am not a full-fledged vegan, but an occasional one. I find that I am not nearly as hungry when vegan as I am when lacto-ovo. When I am lacto-ovo and eat sweets, my appetite goes out of control. A few things that might help - I find I am very hungry all the time when I consume processed sugars and other "junk" foods. I think it is from a fluctuating blood-sugar level. If I stick to things like dates and raisins for sweets, my appetite is much more manageable. Also, salads won't make anyone feel full - you have to eat stick-to-your-ribs food, too. My favorites - lentils, beans, baked potatoes, and nut-butters. These things are good sources of nutrition, and very filling. And, occasionally, vegetarians have eating disorders that others don't notice because we are already eating a "weird" diet - if you are really unhealthily thin as your friends seem to think (I can't picture you from the numbers you listed), be sure you eat a healthy amount of vegan food, and eat often enough to maintain your health.
