Rats--there was one I forgot to mention:

It's a 1988 study that showed that meat eaters had a higher bone loss than did ovolacto vegetarians (35% as opposed to 18%--twice as much bone loss is a pretty wide spread). They hypothesized that it was due to the higher acidity of blood and urine, caused by diet.

So if there was a study showing that meat eaters had better BMD than did vegans, it must have been a very narrowly-focused study because there are more studies showing either no significant association between meat and bone loss for women (as long as they took a lot of calcium) or less bone loss for men if they are vegetarians.
