Subject: Animal Planet Channel-good or bad?

I must admit to a rather guilty pleasure that skirts around the issue
of veganism: I'm becoming an Animal Planet Channel junkie. OK, I
haven't watched the Meerkat Manor show yet but I'm tempted... I'm just curious--are these type of shows considered educational or
exploitive? (I'm still waiting patiently for the show that will
feature typical dinner-table animals and the lives they COULD live if
only people would stop eating them!)What do you all think? I like
watching the shows but I'm concerned that the animals are just being
harassed/filmed for my entertainment. And I also must admit I'm old enough to remember watching the Mutual
of Omaha Wild Kingdom shows back when they were on Sunday nights many,
many decades ago! Your thoughts?
