I guess I just don't see what right we have to decide whose life is more valuable. It's naturally easier for us (as humans) to relate better to other humans than to nonhuman animals, and to relate better to animals who are similar to us rather than those who are different. Based on that, we've arrogantly set up a hierarchy and placed ourselves up at the top. Is this right just because we say so? Also, where does the notion of human superiority end? Saving an animal's life and caring for her at a sanctuary costs a lot of money -- some extreme speciesists would say it's a waste of money and that resources should only be used to help humans who are suffering or dying. What would you say to a person who held that belief?
