Of course, I haven't had to restrict the amount of oils and sugars in my diet because of allergies - I imagine this would cause problems - the food most calorie dense seems to be the food that you can't eat!

You could try tracking your calories using to find out how imbalanced it really is for you. If you eat fewer calories each day then what you burn, you lose weight, and fitday helps you easily track this. You can then add things or increase the amount of certain foods that you eat (as per Claudine's suggestions) and see whether that is having much more of an affect. On a daily basis you can't see if you're losing or gaining weight, but maybe counting calories on a daily basis would help you out here.
