i don't know if it is true that peta euthanizes animals or not, but if they do, it is absolutely NOT because of a political stance against people having companion animals. in fact, peta SUPPORTS people adopting otherwise unwanted companion animals (as long as they are properly spayed or neutered). i know this for a fact, as i know many people who work at peta who have companion animals. they are even allowed to bring companion animals to work.

so rest assured that if peta euthanizes cats and dogs, it isn't "so other people will not adopt them as pets" it's BECAUSE other people will not adopt them. millions of cats and dogs are euthanized each year because there are not enough homes for them. if they cannot be adopted, there is not enough resources available to keep them penned up for the rest of their lives and it would be cruel to do so in any event. with so many unwanted cats and dogs, animal lovers are forced to euthanize animals to prevent the animals from facing a life worse than death. believe me, they hate doing it, and it is very upseting to them, but they do it anyway out of compassion for the animals.

if you pick up the latest "animal times" from peta, there is a good discussion on why compassionate animal lovers should realize that euthanasia is necessary until we can bring down the numbers of unwanted animals. see http://www.peta.org/Living/AT-Fall2005/nokill.asp

and most importantly, peta works really hard to bring down those numbers, dedicating a lot of time and resources to spay and neuter campaigns. they do that not because they are against the concept of companion animals, but because they want to ensure that all cats and dogs DO have a home. they are PRO-ADOPTION for cats and dogs.

it is offensive and just plain wrong to say that peta hates humans or that ANYTHING trumps their concern for animals. first of all, even if you disagree with their tactics, EVERYTHING they do is out of concern for animals. these people have dedicated their lives to trying to help animals. their politics IS concern for animals. their only interest in propaganda is trying to persuade others to help animals. they seek publicity for the sole purpose of trying to use it to help animals. if you think they go too far in these tactics or that their methods are ineffective, you are entitled to think that, but to say that their intent is anything other than to try to help animals, you are dead wrong and most likely have been swayed by anti-peta propaganda spread by those with business interests that are hurt by peta's success.

finally, in terms of them hating humans, that's ridiculous. i know these people personally. they are some of the most compassionate, kindest people i have ever met. not just towards animals but toward ALL creatures - humans too. they may get angry some times at all the horrible indifference and cruelty to innocent animals that they constantly witness, but we all do, even those of us who HAVEN'T dedicated our lives to helping animals. again, you might disagree with their tactics, but there is absolutely no cause to say they hate humans.
