This is a really controversial point, that has merit on both sides. Maybe that's why it's controversial. Anyway, when you think about any really big societal change -- such as racial issues and women's issues, it took really drastic and sometimes even violence, to precipitate change. Change either happens verrrry slowly over hundreds of years, or it takes shock and drastic measures. In the case of animals, they can't speak for themselves to humans have to and most humans don't care, even with drastic measures it will take a very long time, I'm afraid, before people come around to care about something not of their own species. I don't like the campaigns targeted at children, I think that's very very wrong, but I think adults need to be shook and shocked to make them think. They are all pretty much sleeping.
