If it weren't for Ingrid Newkirk, I would probably still be a lacto-ovo-vegetarian in the dark about the creulty of the egg and dairy industries. Four and a half years ago, I saw her being interviewed on a cable TV news show, and she was describing the problems with dairy. I listened and then did some further research, which made me switch to become vegan. So I owe my veganism to Ingrid. However, since then, I have found other equally (or perhaps even more) deserving causes that take a bit more "kinder, gentler" approach: HFA, COK and a local farm sanctuary. But I'm still a card carrying member of PETA. I believe that to be successful, our cause will require action on many fronts using many methods - including PETA's brave "in-your-face" confrontational approach.
