Wow what a thoughtful and considerate question! It sounds to me that the last thing you'll be doing is giving veganism a bad name. Checking every single little label is a very daunting task, especially when you're just becoming interested in the lifestyle. I think you can feel confident about calling yourself vegan, even if you're not quite there yet... this transition can take time. You're opting to not focus on all the nitty gritty details for now and I think that's just fine... I mean, if someone put two glasses of wine in front of you and told you that one was vegan and one wasn't, I doubt you'd feel a desire to go for the non-vegan one. My point is, you're struggling with a convenience issue - it's not that your views are to consume such products. Give it a try, call yourself vegan, and if people ask and want more information, then explain it to them as best you can... becoming vegan is a process, and the only person you should have to answer to is yourself.
