I have been using ProActive for a good 6-7 years now, and thus far it is the only thing that consistently works for me. I had perfectly clear skin till I was 25, then all of a sudden I started breaking out very badly. Went to the dermatologist and used various prescriptions (retin-a and another topical, but refused antibiotics) that worked for a short period, then stopped. Went on birth control; worked for a while, then stopped. I tried ProActiv out of desperation, and after a couple months it worked (it can/does take a couple months for things to work themselves out, so if you try it and it doesn't work right away, don't give up). The ingredient list on ProActiv doesn't thrill me either (I've also eliminated all parapens from my home except ProActiv, not to mention I have no idea what some of those other ingredients are!!), but it is the only thing that has continually worked for me. I've tried to wean myself off it a few times, only to end up back at nasty, broken out square one. Oh - and I'm 41 now, and still fighting the breakouts! Talk about a self-confidence buster!!! I only use the basic kit - facial cleanser, toner, and "repairing" lotion (which is not a moisturizer). I know others have put together their own version of these products, but I'm unsure of the vegan-ess and animal-testing status of those products. ProActiv is vegan and doesn't test on animals. I'd like to try and wean myself off again to see out it goes, but after last time I'm afraid to....
