although i don't know much about that area. that's near one of the places i went surfing and it is nice and quiet and probably a lot more pleasant than comparably priced places in honolulu or waikiki. you will be a lot better off with a car for the kind of things you want to do, and if you were staying in honolulu or waikiki it'd be a pain to have a car. since you have a car, try not to spend all your time in honolulu. i like waikiki and honolulu but the best parts of oahu are elsewhere. defnintely do not go to oahu without getting a chance to see the beautiful eastern shore of oahu. that would be a huge shame. if you drive to the north shore through millilani and central oahu and drive back the same way you will miss it. make sure to drive down kamehameha highway down the eastern shore. (yes it will take much longer.) even if you do nothing else over there, there is a lookout on the pali highway that's worth stopping at. you can take kamehameha hwy down the eastern coast and then pali highway back over the mountains to honolulu. just watch out for rush hour traffic - you don't want to be going over the mountains away from honolulu on weekday afternoons at rush hour, and you don't want to be going toward honolulu on weekday mornings at rush hour. have a great time, i'm jealous!!!
