Dear vegan-but-not-a-vegetarian,
I recently (within the last two months) became a vegan, however i have been a strict no-meat (that's right, not even fish, which to some people is "sort of" meat) vegetarian for almost five years now. Becoming a vegan was a hard decision, as I am in high school and am extremely social. With a busy school schedule and friends, as well as managing my dance team and other extracurriculars, i find myself eating out or snacking on preprepared brown bags that i bring often. I have found it to be challenging, but not socially impossible. If you are truly dedicated to being a vegetarian, as i am dedicated to being a vegan, you can find ways to make it work. Perhaps you do have to skip out on a group meal and order a salad; and i always have a banana and a Kashi all natural granola bar in my purse for these crises. It saddens me to think that with my hectic schedule, i manage to make it work, but there are others who simply believe they dont want to compromise their social lives. Please email me at Missymle17@aol.com if you need ideas on how to handle social meals and do your best to hang in there! There are millions of people doing the same thing 100% and supporting you all the way!

Hugs,
Emily Peterson
