I dropped by yesterday to post my almost-annual Hiroshima Day reminder. I thought maybe I should post an update in case some of the old timers are still around.

It's been a while since I was last here, and a lot has happened. The biggest news is that my wife and I made just about the longest move you can make and still be in this country: west coast to east coast. She is from Nova Scotia originally, and it is a national characteristic of Nova Scotians that, no matter where they are, they always want to move back there.

The move was traumatic in many ways. We are getting too old for that kind of stuff. Still we made it, and we have a nice place with a few acres, a little bit of water frontage, a nice house that doesn't need a whole lot of work. We got here too late in the season to get a veggie garden properly started, but there is a raised-bed garden ready for next year.

The people are the friendliest you could ever want to meet. Cashiers and waitresses call you "dear".

The local culture is Acadian French. I know a reasonable amount of standard French from high school and my Air Force days, but I can't understand a word of Acadian French. But fortunately the people are happy to switch to English. Maybe I'll pick up the dialect eventually.

We have good shopping a reasonable distance away, so getting vegan groceries (see, I made it on-topic!) is not a problem.

Eating out is another story. Everything here is seafood. There is a Chinese restaurant in town which has half a dozen vegan options, but anywhere else, our only choices are green salad, french fries and (suspect) apple pie.

Hope all is well with everyone here.

Keith
