Alexandre Dumas once observed that, "All generalizations are dangerous." The problem with generalizations is that you're then attributing a motive to a single detail. For example, the shooter is a young white male, so do all young white men now pose a threat to this country? Certainly not. As Jo observed, the shooter is mentally ill ... but we cannot further say that all mentally ill people are dangerous. You can't even make a generalization about veganism. Although a great many people are vegans because they believe in the sanctity of animal life, I don't happen to be one of them. I'm on a vegan diet simply because a plant based diet is an effective way to be healthy and to lose weight. I also don't believe that abstaining from the use of animal products will effect any change in the world because quite frankly, the number of people who use animal products substantially outnumber the ones who don't. Since the entire animal product market is driven by consumer demand, I don't believe that vegans are enough of a market force to change the way that animals are used. World wide demand for animal products including meat and dairy items is actually on the rise.
