Subject: Vitamin D question

I know this has been discussed before, but I forgot. Is the only difference between D2 and D3 the source? I know D2 is vegan vitamin D (when specified) and D3 always comes from lanolin/animal source, but is that the only difference? I would not *need* to have D3 for any reason would I??? I don't think so but with the health issues I have been having, I just want to make sure.
Would you happen to know an online website of vegan vitamins at cheap prices? Sometimes I get really lucky and my supermarket has vegetarian vitamins on sale at 1/2 price. There is not that much of a selection, but every little bit counts.
