Sounds like you live near me -- are you on the Olympic Peninsula? I live in a town that is very local business oriented. It is so true that a small business has a tough time competing with box stores and online stores that have no overhead or that have the power to buy large amounts. But if someone comes into my store, I try really really hard to match their price expectations while at the same time giving them something they cannot get from box stores or online stores -- amazing service, and sometimes just freebies -- Ill give them supplies for free, do favors for them like fixing broken glass for free, that kind of thing. I am very aware of how much they can get stuff online for, and try to match that or come close. It's really a good feeling and I repay the favor, shopping local whenever possible.
