For years before I caved in and had the tea with honey again, I did try plain tea and tea with lemon, and tea with sugar, all different kinds of combinations, all different kinds of teas, and it did not help me the way the tea with honey did. I think it could partly be because it may perhaps coat my throat? I don't know for sure what properties in the honey actually help, but I remember how much it did work when I was younger and when I went without eating honey for over 12 years, during that time I tried so many other things but never found anything that worked the same way when I was sick. Last year, I just was so desperate that I used it and it did work. The one thing I haven't tried is agave syrup and I am wondering if that might work. I have never purchased agave syrup but it is my understanding that it has the same type of consistency as honey.
