I am just wondering what others do - if they oil their boards or not. I never used to oil my cutting boards but recently purchased two new bamboo cutting boards and on one it said to oil it with mineral oil. I purchased some mineral oil but wondered if it would get in the food I am cutting and chopping on the board and if it is healthy? The directions said oil once a day for a week then once a month. I oiled them once and rinsed them with water and let them dry (I just felt the need to rinse them off). They are nicer than before - I guess they were really dry. Do I really need to oil them everyday for a week? Is this really going to help or be worse cutting on a board that was treated with mineral oil (I am not even sure what mineral oil is). Oh and when I took the plastic off one of the cutting boards the smell was nasty. I never used bamboo before so I don't know if that's normal. After I oiled it, it didn't have that nasty smell anymore. I don't think the second one was wrapped because it didn't have that same nasty smell, so maybe it was just from the plastic wrapping.
