Yay! Someone who understands my dilemma! THANK YOU so much for responding. I heard about you from Barbara Mathison, the president & founder of The Vegetarian Society of Utah. I'll try your suggestions. My fellow VSU members, (and doctors I've asked) only look at me blankly when I ask how to eat vegan when experiencing intestinal problems. I'm TOTALLY SOLD on the benefits of the lifestyle, but have struggled for over a year to eat vegan. I do have a Vitamix and notice when I puree my veggies I tolerate them better. I think I'm OK with gluten tho, cuz when my intestines are particularly upset and painful, the only thing that calms everything down is when I eat bland, white stuff (YUCK!): rice, potatoes, and especially bread. I can't do Wonder Bread, so eat good quality sourdough with minimal ingredients. I miss crunchy salads and whole grains. I wonder if you've heard of or tried hypnosis for tummy troubles? Since my colitis/IBS began a year ago, nothing my dr. suggested has worked, but I found a "gut specific" hypnosis program by a British dr. that has helped. His name is Michael Mahoney and his 4 CD program is called "IBS Audio Program 100". You listen for a half hour a day for 100 days. Have you heard of that? Again - many thanx for your terrific advice and concern. I'm going to check out all of your books. You are a gem! Cathy
