Wendy and I went on a 2-day cruise this week, up the west coast of Vancouver Island on a ship that is also a working freighter delivering supplies to remote places along the coast.
It is an area of gorgeous scenery, but the coolest thing about the trip was that we saw about ten humpback whales. They were mostly alone or in pairs, but we saw one group consisting of two adults and one baby. They are very hard to photograph, since you don't know where they will surface. When you see the spout, you don't have time to focus the camera and get the shot off before they dive again. Still, I got a couple of decent shots.
