Thanks, Jo. The thing is that I didn't buy the rice in bulk (it was a rather small sealed bag). The instructions said *not* to wash the grain so that I get full nutrients. However, cookbooks I have said to always wash and pick through the grains. Next time I'll opt for less nutrients but cleaner rice! I don't mind freezing the grains if it prevents hatching. One more question though---based on your advice above, I assume it us safe to eat the larvae? Much appreciated!
