Hi, Kim. The problem usually occurs with grains purchased in bulk. The infestation is already there at the time of purchase and the larvae "come to life" once you bring the grain home. Two ways to avoid this are (1) don't buy your grains in bulk, or (2) store the grains in the freezer. For the second option, the infestation will still be there, but the eggs will not hatch. If you keep an infested batch of grains, it is possible your other grains could become infested as well. Personally, I don't find cleaning out bugs like this incompatible with veganism, but you might feel differently. ~Jo
