Subject: backyard chickens

So there's been a lot of press lately about people having backyard chickens because they "care about where their food comes from."

That planted the seed in my brain I WANT SOME! I would love to have/rescue some chicken girls to take care of, even though we live in town. I guess you can't have roosters because they crow but most ordinances allow girl chickens.

My husband resisted the idea since every time we open the garage five or six cats scatter like cockroaches, I feed all the local strays, and I have a very old rabbit (10 years, her guy died last year) and he really wants to reduce the animal population at our house, but if I had chickens, what would one do with the eggs? I don't want to do anything with them, but the issue comes up, what WOULD one do, just leave them?
