Tempeh should be cooked for at least 20 minutes (unless the package states that it has been "fully cooked"). You can simmer it in water to cover for 10 to 15 minutes (depending on the recipe or further treatment it will receive) and then finish it with frying, baking, or whatever other method you prefer. Sorry to hear that you got sick from it. Hopefully taking this precaution (pre-simmering) in the future will prevent that. ~Jo
