I too have a large separation (twins - 10 mos ago)
I got back to doing Pilates at about 7 wks post.
I don't have a flat stomach either, but my muscles are definately strong, and getting stronger. The diastasis doesn't affect the ab workout in any way.
My advice is to start slowly and work up to the strenuous stuff.
