When these hypocritical "pro-life" people come out and denounce war and the death penalty as part of their belief system, when they denounce abortion clinic bombings and murder of obstetricians, when they denounce the killing and beating of homosexuals, I will take them seriously. Until then, they are just liars and hypocrites.
Let's face it - they are anti-life. They don't care if a woman dies carrying a pregnancy to term.
They don't care if large numbers of brown-skinned people in other countries die at the hands of our missiles and firepower.
They don't care that the death penalty is unevenly applied and that we remain one of the last Western industrialized countries to use the death penalty - the rest of the world, civilized that they are, has renounced it as barbaric.
They don't care that gays in this country are systematically discriminated against, even beaten and killed.
None of that matters. Their appalling Amerikkkan nationalism, their racism, their sexism, their homophobia, and their xenophobic beliefs drive their hatred and their small-mindedness.
These people are to be pitied.
They are no better than a person who bombs an abortion clinic or murders an obstetrician because that doctor is helping women with private personal choices.
They are no better than the people who support war without end and support preemptive strikes against innocent civilians who did nothing to harm us.
They are no better than those in power who say "we should go to war and not bother with diplomacy."
They are no better than those who, like Fred Phelps, carry signs at the funerals of gay men saying that homosexuals should all die or be stoned to death.
They are no better than the worst in our society.
And they should be pitied for that.
