I found this political advertisement for Obama interesting and misplaced. The
fact is that in Alaska there are more wolves than can survive if left to kill
weak other animals, and rather than have the wolves starve to death, a
number of permits are issued to cull the packs.

The same is done for other wild animals; there is not enough forage for
animals and so the Department of Wildlife in all States issue a certain number
of hunting permits each year to cull the herd to avoid starvation.

The fact that a Governor of a State such as Alaska would understand the
foregoing better than those who have never studied range and wildlife
management does not mean that those without any knowledge should decide
to back a particular presidential candidate.

Remember it is Congress that passes all the laws -- not a President. It was
Congress that passed legislation instructing the Commander in Chief to
invade Iraq -- therefore it is Congress's War not President Bush's War; it is
Congress that is passing laws allowing or disallowing drilling, etc.

As a vegan, I do not believe in killing animals to eat, but I also am
compassionate and accept the fact that a certain number of wolves need to be
killed each year in Alaska -- because not enough States want these wolves
caught and released in their States to rebuild what was once a native wolf
population. Instead of complaining about a sound wildlife management
program, perhaps you could be urging all of us to contact our State
Legislatures to bring in 100 or so wolves every year -- they would eat a lot of
the domestic raised animals, like cows and sheep, and they would have a field
day with the deer, etc.

Whatever -- it was really a stupid opinion piece.
