LOL. Are they admitting to being Republicans? Or are they simply admitting they are voting for McCain? The word "Republican" was never uttered at the Republican National Convention. McCain nor Palin would not dare say the word. The Republican party is cracking up and will have to retool their message completely in order to simply survive as a party. It's no secret that McCain's candidacy is a direct result of the Republican party being on its last legs. Most Republicans can't stand him. In 8 years, Bush managed to destroy what it took 40 years for the Republicans to accomplish. The Republican party won't survive in its current form.
My opinion is that in order for the party to survive, they will have to throw the fundie Xtian and the radical neocon factions overboard. That leaves the center to regroup. We are more and more a multiracial and multi-ethnic society, and until the Republicans come to grip with that and begin more inclusive policies that don't push everybody except old white racists out of the party, they simply won't survive as a party.
This is not my opinion, BTW. The conservative intellectuals have been discussing this for a while. They realize their party is in a complete flail, and nobody has a clue what to do about it.
As I said, the Repugs are going to have to throw the radical elements under the bus - the fundies and the neocons - and tack to the center if they want to survive.
