Subject: Any suggstions for relief of GERD/Acid Reflux?
Date: January 14, 2006 at 12:38 pm PST

Thanks for reading my post :-) I have been diagnosed with what a couple different doctors think is GERD (gastroesophigal reflux disorder). It's been increasing for a couple years and I think much of it is due to stress, not so much food or lifestyle (since I already do well in these last two areas). I have been following the McDougall eating style for about the past 6 years, only fudging when I am out to dinner (where I will partake in the fish option and some occasional dairy) or at a party, etc. So now am being even stricter to see if it helps any (and I have now cut back on classically GERD irritating foods such as tomatoes, onions, citrus, chocolate, etc. as well just in case). I have learned about tools to moderate the stress, have taken yoga, sleep with my head up, taken enzymes, tried accupuncture, and am now considering a new lower-stress career as a last ditch effort to curb this w/o taking drugs (which are, I guess, the really last ditch effort, but still don't work at the cause, just the symptom). I don't have heartburn much, just clearly acid irritating my esophagas, which feels like there is something in my throat all the time, and creates a bad taste to boot. Anyway, just thought I'd put it out there to see if any of you have had similar situations and have gained relief with certain ways of eating or anything else. My Dr also said once you have this you will always have it (that's depressing! And I don't know if I believe it since all he wanted to so was put me on Zantac till I die). Any suggestions/comments/thoughts would be much appreciated! :-) Coco
