Lauren,
Depending on where you live, health food stores usually are not very common. The closest one to me is about a 1/2 hour, but there is a regular grocery store just a few minutes away. Is there a specialty food that you want to get from the health food store? I have a thing for fakin' bacon, but can only get it at the hfs. I buy 4 packages when I do get to go and freeze them.

The important thing to do at a grocery store is read labels and know what ingredients come from animals. If there is nothing on the list of ingredients that comes from animals, it's vegan. Check out PETA's website for more information about what ingredients come from animals or use animals in the processing of it.

You can also try talking to the manager at your local grocery store about any items you want. Most of the time, they are happy to get things for people.
