I am feeling so out of sych with the world. And the thing that drove it home this time was that the place I volunteer at, a shelter for retired racing greyhounds, has a mouse problem. I tried to introduce have- a -heart traps, but the first one I set up was rejected in a vicious way--a nasty note taped on it, and a mouse left inside to die. I am sickened by the brutality of people who claim to love animals. I am discouraged by the logistical considerations --laws that may prohibit releasing mice into the wild and the obvious health concerns of letting the mice over run the place. I tried to get them to take the idea of tightening up the building seriously, even printed out instructions from the interenet. But no one cares. I'm grieving for the little mouse and all the others who are dying in traps over there, and I am feeling like the only person on the planet outside my family who shares my values on humane treatment of living creatures. Somebody tell me I'm not nuts, please!
