So here's my rant. I'm sure most of you have run into this at some point in your vegan/vegetarianism. I am vegan for environmental and health benefit reasons- don't get me wrong, I like animals, but it's definately not the main reason I'm vegan. I'm 19 and I've been vegan for 14 months now. I eat organic, locally farmed (so I can see the chicken), well-treated chicken's eggs. About a dozen every month or two. (Not that amounts should specifically matter). I understand that eating some eggs doesn't make me a full vegan, however, I don't have any better word to use for it (perhaps vegan with an exception, but that leads to MORE questions and a lot more mix ups than straight vegan). I won't eat anybody else's eggs, I have to buy them myself (and see the facility)- these are 30 chicken farms I'm talking about. I won't eat eggs anywhere but at home, so other people don't necesarily need to know that I eat them- especially restaurants or at other folk's houses when they're trying to cook me meals. Every time I say, "I'm vegan", my friends (oh how cruel) say "except the eggs, they don't matter". How do i politely tell them off? Truly, I don't care what other people think of me, but this "you're not vegan enough for us meat-eaters" bullsht has to stop. This happens in restaurants, and most lately, as I was leaving a message for a really important dinner (Technician of the Year banquet- where I actually want to impress people). Any ideas? I'm REALLY fed up.
