I made the decision to eliminate meat from my diet about a year ago. My decision was based on several factors including my moral opposition to the killing of animals for food as well as health factors. I was raised in a meat-eating family and because of this I have been met with much criticism from my them. My decision to follow a vegetarian diet was a very personal one and I don't expect my family to suddenly change their opinions or habits based on what I have deemed right for me. I don't push my beliefs on them but I do try to explain how I feel and why I have made this lifestyle change. I am stressed because when invited to family dinners it seems as if the only foods present are meat dishes that obviously I will not eat and my family knows this but yet they still do it every time. I am met with snide remarks and have actually been called names like "stupid" for the choice I have made. My question is how can I get support from my non-vegetarian family?
