I found the news story in several places. Although there is a long version and a short version, it's all the same report, no matter which website is reporting it.

Unfortunately, there is not enough information to make any kind of conclusion. It is possible that the person is genuinely seeking enlightenment. It is also possible that it is all a big moneymaking scam to attract tourists' and pilgrims' rupees. There just isn't enough information.
