I have a friend who is a Ph.D. in physics and has spent a lot of time looking into phenomena that are beyond the laws of physics as we understand them.

Some 25 years ago he bought an old house and set about remodeling it in order to live in it. I helped him with some of that work. There was one bedroom in the house that was eerie to be in. When I would enter that bedroom, it would not be long until I got a weird feeling that someone was there. Of course, I was alone.

Some years later, 15 or 20, I think, my friend told me that he had felt the same thing too back in the remodeling days. He found out from a long-time resident of the community that a woman had died in childbirth in that room back in the early 1900's. He went to the room alone and waited until he felt as if someone were there. He began to talk into the air, trying to communicate with the spirit. He explained to the being that she had died and needed to move on. He told her that someone was there where she was to lead her into the next phase of her existence and that she should follow that person. I don't know how much time passed, but the best I remember, within weeks he no longer felt the presence in the room.

I have read about earth-bound spirits, but don't have any personal experience other than this. I certainly don't offer it as any type of proof of anything and I by no means claim to be an authority on anything. But this experience leads me to believe that people sometimes have trouble transitioning to the next world, whatever their cause of death, and it seems that earnest prayer on our parts can help them.
