I'm not sure this is the best place to post my question/concern, but perhaps someone can guide me to the best place.
I've been a vegetarian since 1996 and a vegan since 1999. My daughter was born in 1995. I was still eating meat and dairy when I was pregnant with her, but she has never eaten meat. Her consumption of dairy was always low and ended completely by the age of 4. She was breastfed with some supplementing with formula.
Our home is very environmentally friendly. We avoid the use of chemicals, pesticides, plastics, etc, although plastics are hard to avoid. But we are definitely a natural product home.
Now, the issue. My daughter has just started her period and is 10 1/2 years old. (She was tested for bone age when the first signs of puberty showed up, and all tests were normal.) I know that this is within the "normal" age range, but I thought for sure that she would be in the later part of normal given our family's habits. My only concern is that she has consumed and continues to consume quite a bit of soy.
Of course we will not consider a change from our vegan lifestyle. However I do wonder if we should reduce soy consumption, something I've never previously bought into at all. I have a son who is 8 1/2.
I have read contradictory studies, and I have read what is available on this site. Those that are clear seem to almost always come from someone with a decided bias.
Any thoughts, comments, or suggestions? I appreciate anything that you have to offer.
