Hi Amy, Tofu is made from soymilk, which is best made from pre-soaked whole, dry soybeans. Any other kind of processed soy, and what you describe sounds almost like TVP, (textured vegetable protein) is not going to work. That being said, You didn't say where you live, however you can order the very best soybeans for making soymilk and tofu. Laura Beans direct from the farm. That's what I do. They are NON-GMO and very cost effective, even with the shipping. And they make Tosteds, too. Very tasty soynuts :-)
