Sheila, "I spent some time in Taiwan a number of years ago and was struck by the great variety and quantity of vegetable dishes - even in restaurants and homes were meat was offered. And of course the centerpiece was/is always rice. Even the phrase to "eat a meal" - "chih fun" really means "to eat rice". The character for rice refers to all food because it's understood that grain (in this case rice) is fundamental to human nutrition." Was the rice brown rice or white rice? If it was brown rice, do you know if they soaked it or anything like that before hand? Thanks, Chris
