In recent years, many succesful manufacturers of alternative products have been acquired by larger, well-established corporations. That these multi-nationals are "buying into" this market is actually good news. It confirms the strength, and marketability of vegetarian products.

However, I can understand your concern.

Brands such as White Wave (Dean Foods) , and Light Life (Con Agra), Small Planet Foods Cascadian Farms, Muir Glen (General Mills) are just a few of the acquisions with strong roots in the vegetarian community. You may wonder about the new company and their committment.

I believe that if the products fail to maintain the quality and integrity of the original, they will lose their loyal base and be replaced by aggressive new competitors.

Consumers vote with their purchases. When I noticed that Light Life added ingredients I objected to (eggs, I think) YUK--to their "Italian Sausages" I stopped buying them and let my readers and the company know about it.
