| | Subject: | MSG in soy products | |
Date: | September 13, 2006 at 8:50 am PST |
I have been reading that MSG is either added (or created indirectly as a result of processing) to many of the soy products I have been using (Trader Joe's meatless meatballs; gardenburger, Smart Ground). It is evidently hidden behind the name of "hydrolyzed protein" in the meatballs. In the Smart Ground and Gardenburger it is listed as "soy protein concentrate". This stuff seems to be a prevalent as high fructose corn syrup in processed foods - not just soy - and it is just as fattening & can have negative side effects. Can anyone tell me if this is true and if so, are there any soy meat products out there that DON'T have disguised MSG? Thanks.
