Subject:         Soy products and children -- estrogen concerns
Date: September 17, 2009 at 1:40 pm PST

My wife and I eat a near-vegetarian diet and it’s almost all local, organic. We’re reading and learning more as we go and love the direction we are going. We continue to be very, very concerned and it seems that the more we learn, the more we realize how powerful and effective the meat, dairy, etc., industries have been at keeping consumers in a constant state of denial.

My question relates to our 11 month twins and our 3 year old daughter. We’re serious about taking them off meat and dairy, but Tracy is concerned about the possible connection between soy products and estrogens. Can you please offer us advice and/or direct us to the most comprehensive, recent, peer-reviewed science or summary?

Also, if there is a valid concern with soy products, what other suggestions to you have for what we put in their bottles?

All three were breast fed for the first several months, then the older daughter has drank raw, local goat milk and the twins have been drinking the best formula (Earth’s Best [Cow] Organic w/iron) we can find on the web, or our local health food store.

Any advice or guidance will be greatly appreciated!!!
